Performance that promises the joy of driving

The Vellfire responds intuitively to input as expected, thereby meeting the needs of its customers.

Front Performance Brace

Exclusive to the Vellfire, the Front Performance Brace connects the radiator support and side members, providing added body rigidity and delivering outstanding responsiveness even when accelerating from a standing start.

2.4-liter T24A-FTS Turbo engine

Combining high acceleration responsiveness with ample driving torque, the 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder DOHC turbo engine reacts to the driver’s accelerator input in a highly satisfactory manner. Compared to the previous generation’s 3.5-liter V6 engine, torque has been increased at low engine speeds, and the accelerator pedal stroke has been shortened―consequently, with minimal pedal input, the driver can experience a sense of acceleration that belies the weight of the vehicle. In addition, unwanted engine noises have been reduced when moving from a standing start and during normal RPM range; when accelerating, the engine has been tuned to deliver a sporty sound to enhance the joy of driving.

Equipment inspired by the desire to provide hospitality

The development team wished to ensure that the customer experience would be luxurious and comfortable at all times―from entering and exiting the vehicles to the ride itself. For this reason, the team carefully considered how the Alphard and Vellfire would be used by customers and what modifications would improve customer satisfaction. The team also committed to developing and installing a variety of equipment that would deliver hospitality.

  • In previous generations, the lighting, assorted switches, and air conditioning vents were located along both sides of the ceiling; now, the team has developed the Super-Long Overhead Console and concentrated these fixtures in the center of the ceiling. The Console also provides enhanced convenience and operability by enabling occupants in any seat to open windows on the opposite side of the vehicle and to adjust the lighting.
  • The Alphard and Vellfire are the first-ever Toyota vehicles to feature Universal Steps on both right and left-hand-side sliding doors, making it easier for small children and the elderly to enter and exit the vehicles in comfort. As the doors open, a step emerges approximately 220 mm above ground, lowering the height of the first step for customers entering or exiting the vehicle. Long assist grips designed for easy use by occupants of all shapes and sizes are also positioned on the C pillars and on both sides of the ceiling to ensure comfortable entry and exit.
  • To improve the riding experience for all second and third-row seat occupants, improvements have also been made to the cars’ shades. More specifically, the moonroof uses independently operable right and left-side shades, so that some occupants can choose to see the sky while others choose to block out the sunlight; Toyota’s first-ever pull-down side sunshades have also been installed, enabling customers to block excess sunlight while still enjoying the scenery.

Upgraded Chassis, TNGA For The First Time

The Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) has been praised to no end for its balance of comfort and dynamism.

Now the Alphard and Vellfire models finally come built on the GA-K platform, which has been optimised for van use by using straight rockers and a V-shaped brace in the lower rear part of the vehicle. This has improved rigidity by 50% versus the third generation model. Toyota have also adopted structural adhesives at points where the chassis is prone to flexing to limit body deformation over time.

The new Alphard and Vellfire feature TNGA-specific MacPherson strut front suspension with an updated double wishbone rear suspension. They’ve also fitted special shock absorbers that mechanically adjust damping force based on frequency of vibrations. Rubber bushings have been used on the mounting points of the 2nd row of seats too.

The seats here also now feature memory foam for increased comfort. All of Toyotas work has resulted in a 30% reduction in vibrations over the previous models. They have gone as far as developing low-noise tyres and using sound-absorbing materials in the cowls, as well as optimising the shapes of parts to reduce wind noise.

Diverse Powertrain Options

As before, the Alphard and Vellfire will be offered with petrol engines as well as a hybrid electric vehicle. However, for the first time, Toyota is also planning a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) version as well, but the details of this power unit have not yet been officially announced. What’s also interesting to note is that there will also be a turbocharged petrol option for the first time and this has been reserved exclusively for the Vellfire model, which leans even further into its more youthful image by taking on special suspension tuning and an 8-speed Direct Shift Automatic. The Alphard gets a 2.5L naturally-aspirated engine with a Super CVT-i by default.

On the HEV models, both models feature a version of this 2.5L engine that’s mated to a Series Parallel Hybrid System with an E-CVT. The hybrid powertrain is rated for up to 250PS of output and as low as 17.5km/L with the 2WD setup.

All models come with the option of all-wheel drive which is enabled via a rear-mounted electric motor on the hybrid models. Here’s the full breakdown:

The 2024 Toyota Vellfire Is For Sportier Families

Via: Toyota

At first glance, the two minivans look exactly the same – they’re basically twins. Save for a few external design choices and exclusive options, the Toyota Alphard and the Toyota Vellfire are the same vehicles.

So what makes a buyer choose the Alphard or Vellfire over the other? In previous model years, not much as both were pretty much the same luxury minivans. But for the 2024 model year, Toyota has worked to differentiate each other between two distinct owner preferences.

The exterior design of the Vellfire reflects its active personality, from the sporty front grille to the aggressive rear light design. Toyota increased the Vellfire’s body rigidity by equipping the minivan with a front performance brace. Buyers also have the option to equip it with a 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder DOHC turbo engine – exclusive to the Vellfire. While it’s probably not as fast as the Voyah Dreamer, which is one of the fastest minivans in the world today, Toyota said that it tuned the engine to give drivers a sense of acceleration even with minimal pedal input. The Japanese automaker also tuned the engine to deliver a sporty sound.

Furthermore, the Vellfire has an exclusive Z Premier grade option that perfectly pairs the vehicle’s sporty appearance with a jet black coat of paint with chrome highlights.

Overview of the all-new Alphard and Vellfire

1) Dignified styling

The all-new Alphard and Vellfire conform to the size constraints of standard automated parking systems of 5,000 mm or less in length, and 1,850 mm or less in width, yet they make optimal use of the available dimensions to deliver an expansive interior space. Although minivans tend to appear flat when viewed side-on, the exterior designs embody a powerful, dignified styling.

An exterior design that exudes power

Working to an exterior design theme of “Forceful x IMPACT LUXURY,” the team sought to establish a sense of solidity for the vehicles, akin to a fighting bull in full charge. To create that feeling of power, as if the vehicles were charging forward, the team designed a cutting-edge reverse slant for the emblem; stretching from front to back, the sides of the vehicles feature dynamic irregularities which evoke a strength firmly rooted in the ground.

An expansive interior space

The development team has succeeded in increasing the space between the front and second-row seats, and between the second-row and third-row seats by 5 mm and 10 mm respectively. They did this by implementing modifications to both the driving position and to the construction of the second-row seats, making both the side quarter trim on the third row of seats and the backdoor trim thinner, and trying multiple sizes at intervals of 0.1 mm.

The 2024 Toyota Alphard And Vellfire Are The Ultimate Family Minivans

Via: Toyota

The 2024 Toyota Alphard and Vellfire are 7-seater premium Japanese minivans. It is the flagship people mover in Toyota’s global vehicle offerings.

Popular for being practical in Japan, the Vellfire and Alphard are designed to be easy to navigate through narrow urban streets in Japan. This results in the short length and compact width of the car, while also raising the height of the vehicle. For context, the Sienna is 6 inches wider, 7 inches longer, but still 6 inches shorter in height.

Toyota sells around 100,000 examples of these minivans every year in Japan alone. It is the luxury vehicle of choice for those who can’t get their hands on the flagship Toyota Century, which is now also an SUV.

In Japan, Toyota sells the Alphard starting at around $36,000 for the lowest-trim level, scaling to $58,000 for the highest-trim level. The Vellfire is the premium choice, starting around $43,000, while the top-of-the-line model will set you back around $60,000 (all prices are converted from Japanese Yen to USD). The base trim model of the Toyota Sienna starts from $37,000 in America, meaning they are both quite comparable.

Japan is Toyota’s largest minivan market, but they are equally popular in Thailand, China, Indonesia, Taiwan and other south-east Asian countries. The Alphard is the standard model, while the Vellfire is the premium offering. At launch, Toyota estimated 70 percent of sales to come from the Alphard, while 30 percent would be the Vellfire.

Presentation by Simon Humphries

Good afternoon everybody.

Thank you very much for taking the time to be here today for the world premiere of the new Alphard and Vellfire.

When we think of the Alphard and Vellfire, a well-established image comes to mind.

The face, the grille, the presence, the total luxury of the passenger space…

But its important to remember that it wasn’t always that way…

The Alphard had rather more humble beginnings.

During the 90’s, the minivan segment was born from earlier commercial models.

The Alphard was created from these beginnings to be a new type of family car, where the space of the interior became the ultimate value…

It opened new opportunities for passengers, whether that be through a variety of seat arrangements, or in-car entertainment… or simply having another space for you define on your own terms…

And importantly, the driver was not left out.

The high seating position, performance and of course the character and confidence of the front end, all became a symbols of pride… and with the advent of the Vellfire, a new alter ego was born.

The Vellfire was more aggressive, dynamic, and had real attitude. it attracted a younger customer.

In fact, 30% of all customers are in their 30’s or younger…

With the rivalry between the two, people fell in love with the aura of the Alphard and Vellfire, and over time, the cars have grown, together with the customer.

But what was planned is really only half of the story.

The Alphard became part of a bigger movement…

Simply, it challenged, and changed, the social etiquette of the chauffeur vehicle world.

A world where, until the Alphard came along, there was only the sedan.

So how did this happen?

Well, there are probably many people who played a part in this, but today I’d like to tell you a story about one person who also played a big part in creating this change… Akio Toyoda.

When we talk about Akio san, its usually as a car-guy, or the «master driver»… but today it may be more appropriate to call him as the «master-passenger»…!

back in 2004, then a director of Toyota, he decided that instead of using a sedan as his chauffeur car, he would use the Alphard.

It suited his work style…

The space was there to work in comfort, talk with colleagues and acquaintances, relax between meetings, even change clothes if necessary…

All these factors made the Alphard the perfect choice…

But in reality, acceptance of this choice was a very different story…

In fact, on arriving to a meeting with another company in a white Alphard, he was told to «move along», «get out of the way», as there was a VIP due to arrive immediately, probably in a Century!

We all know who that was supposed to be, and the guard’s surprise when Akio stepped out of the Alphard!

This, of course, is now all history.

Now, the Alphard and Vellfire are used by everybody from Sumo rikishi to politicians, film stars to business people…

Over the three generations, Akio, as a master passenger, honed his requests to help tune each generation to an ever higher level…

It truly has become the new standard in the chauffeur driven world.

This unique approach to the value of space, and how much hospitality can be built into it, is in many ways, something very Japanese.

The Alphard and Vellfire build on the Japanese philosophy of «omotenashi», where attention to even the smallest detail is critical to anticipating the customers needs.

But for many years it has remained primarily in Japan, and to be honest, as it’s looked at from overseas with some bemusement… we wondered if it would become the automotive equivalent of the «garakei»…

Thankfully, the customer has again taken the car to the next level.

The values and belief that made this car special in Japan have increasingly started to resonate with people around the world, with high demand even where the vehicle is not being sold.

So, with the new Alphard and Vellfire, it will be offered in twice has many countries, where we truly hope and believe, many new customers can enjoy and participate in the growth of this very unique product.

Everybody, the all new Alphard and Vellfire…

3 advantages of Alphard

Luxury design

The exterior of the new Alphard is more elaborate, many details are plated with shiny chrome for a sharp and luxurious beauty. Besides, the interior of the luxury 7-seat Alphard is designed in a user-focused direction. The interior compartment uses mainly high-quality leather and wood paneling to bring a high-class, modern experience.

Smooth and flexible operation

The latest Alphard is equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engine system. This engine produces a maximum capacity of 296 horsepower at 6,600 rpm, accompanied by a maximum torque of 361 Nm at 4,600 to 4,700 rpm. The car uses an 8-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. Compared to competitors, Alphard’s large capacity V6 engine offers much superior performance. Alphard can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 9.23 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 180 km/h. In particular, Toyota Alphard is equipped with ESP electric power steering system, so the car operates more flexibly than other models in the same segment.

Safety features

Alphard models own the most modern safety system with 7 airbags, front and rear disc brakes, ABS, EBD, and BA technology brakes, … Moreover, Alphard also uses a safety package. Toyota’s premium is Safety Sense. This safety package gives users features such as a Pre-collision sensor (PCS), active cruise control system (DRCC), automatic high beams (AHB), and warning When deviating from the lane,… Experts estimate that compared to other competitors in the same segment, the safety technology of the Alphard luxury MPV is superior.

Disadvantages of Toyota Alphard

Expensive price

Because it is defined as a luxury car, we can say that the Toyota Alphard can be one of the most expensive Toyotas compared to other models. You will have to pay from $120,000 to $317,888 or even more to buy a new Alphard.

Fuel consumption

Toyota Alphard’s fuel consumption for 100 km is as follows: 14.6 liters of street roads, 7.2 liters of the highway, and 9.9 liters of mixed roads. It can be seen that the Toyota Alphard may not be a fuel-efficient car compared to the Vellfire.
